Good Governance: Corruption undermines plans, ruins lives and threatens the entire sustainable development agenda. Nepal has one of the lowest levels of development effectiveness. This initiative aims to build informed and empowered civil society at the local level in order to strongly advocate for transparency, accountability and good governance; and demand a greater effectiveness in development projects. We ask governments and big corporations to be accountable and transparent for the betterment of the people. We have been campaigning and advocating for the Financial Transaction Taxes (FTTs) as a country partner of Global FTTs Campaign.
Democracy & Human Rights: Global South Initiative promotes democracy, integrity, rule of law and human rights. We amplify the voices of those living in poverty and injustice through research and evidence-based policy intervention. We encourage inclusive democracy, social harmony and human rights through the development of policies, laws and opportunities that empower local communities and involve them in decision-making.
Climate Justice: We demand realization and urgency of climate change and environmental challenges. With other like-minded leading environmental organizations, we organize mass mobilization, promote citizen’s grassroots leadership and intervene at government’s response and multilateral process for climate justice.
Food Security: It is shameful that even in the 21st century people are dying of hunger and poverty. Food security is one of the major challenges of our time. We are working to mitigate the blockades behind it through campaigning and advocacy for the betterment of people’s livelihoods.
Green Economy: Global South Initiative campaigns for transparency in international finance and opposes secrecy and illicit financial flows. We demand tax justice and fair equal opportunity. We promote eco-friendly lifestyle to reduce the environmental impact for healthier and sustainable living. We advocate for decent work, tax justice and green jobs to respond the global challenges of environmental protection and economic development.
Sustainable Mountain Development (Environmental Sustainability): The high mountains are suffering the impact of global warming and climate change in a particularly intense way. The attrition of mountain biodiversity worldwide threatens the global life-support systems. Thus, there is an urgent need to manage resources more sustainably and to reduce the use of natural resources and CO2 emissions. Global South Initiative works for the environmental sustainability, putting people and the planet at the center of our work. We promote advocacy and awareness-raising activities on sustainable mountain development, as well as to conserve and sustainably use our ocean and marine ecosystems through environment-friendly lifestyles and campaigning for carbon-neutral world.
Women Empowerment & SRHR: Believing that gender equality and women’s empowerment are key to transforming communities, we advance economic opportunities for women, by educating and empowering women with the skills and confidence. GSI strives to contribute to the economic and social development of the country by building sustainable solutions to poverty and injustice. We have been working on this issues of Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) to improve the condition of marginalized girls and women in rural Nepal.
Social Entrepreneurship: We accelerate social entrepreneurs supporting enterprising leadership, ideas, and initiatives. We bring people together, encourage social cohesion and build networks among them. We empower people so that they can use their business skills to solve social, environmental, or economic problems that has direct effect on their community, in society or the world.
Sustainable Livelihoods & Disaster Risk Management: Global South Initiative work on awareness raising and campaigning for the biodiversity protection and restoration, natural disaster management and ecosystem services for sustainable livelihoods with a aim of helping in reducing the socioeconomic vulnerability to natural hazards.
Global South Advocacy Initiative: Advocacy for the equal participation of the global south in global decision making is foremost priority of Global South Initiative. To achieve this goal, we have been raising the unheard voices of the region in different high level policy making events such as G8/G20 Summits, United Nations Conferences, and other important international and regional conferences. We have submitted several policy recommendations, intervened in different decision making high level global forums, and expanding collaboration with other regional and global organizations and networks to accelerate the impact of global advocacy.
Internet Governance: The goal of this project is to strengthen grass root level stakeholders through research, capacity building, awareness raising, and policy intervention on internet governance, public policy and digital diplomacy.

Nepal Post 2015 was the national campaign of people and organizations working on MDGs and Post-MDGs. It brought policy makers, academics, campaigners, entrepreneurs, youths and citizens together to make Nepal’s voice heard during the Post-2015 discussions and decision making processes. Nepal Post 2015 was coordinated by Global South Initiative and it also served as the secretariat of this campaign.
